19 June is World Sickle Cell Day
The second celebration of World Sickle Cell Day takes place on 19 June 2010. This follows the December 2008 United Nations resolution recognizing sickle cell disease as a global public health problem.
The Day will be highlighted by organisations throughout the world, including in Cameroon, Ontario (Canada), Gabon, Nigeria, Oman, Senegal and the United States.
In England the Sickle Cell Society is hosting an evening reception in Westminster on Friday 18 June to draw attention to the condition and the work being done on screening and care in this country.
