  • Welcome

Welcome to the NHS Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Screening Programme. Our linked screening programme helps to support people to make informed choices about screening for sickle cell and for thalassaemia during pregnancy and for newborn babies. We work with a variety of stakeholders including health care professionals and service users.
  • Programme Standards

We have produced the second edition of our Programme Standards. You can also read other guidelines such as the Handbook for Laboratories.
  • Find Out About Screening

Read our real life stories which includes people speaking about their conditions and their experience of being screened for sickle cell and thalassaemia.
  • Publications

Browse all the publications from the screening programme, including annual reports, newsletters, leaflets and factsheets.
  • Resources for the public and professionals

We have a variety of leaflets that are aimed at the public and health care professionals, including new leaflets explaining carrier status.
